Will you be my… Employer?
Here’s how i made sure to stand out in the current job market ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
As my great uncle Hippocrates says, “Desperate times call for desperate measures.”
If anyone needs a copywriter, show me some love.
I chose the ten agencies I wanted to work at, and then got to work stalking researching which recruiter or creative director would be the target of cupid’s arrow. 💘
Then, I continued that work by constructing ten Valentine’s Day boxes and filling them with anything I felt fit the theme. It included everything from “we’re a perfect match” matchboxes, popcorn, and instead of a boring cover letter, I wrote each person an individualized poem.
Additionally, I included a tappable business card that took the recipient to a landing page which included my book, resume, contact info, and a video I filmed of me introducing myself while also answering typical interview questions.
It’s no secret that a career pivot is something that comes with extensive challenges. Even though I had copywriting experience, I had spent the last nine years working at SNL and needed to show people that I had the creativity and determination to get the job done.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, I decided to launch the lovely “Will You Be My… Employer?” campaign to get the attention of recruiters and creative directors at agencies I was crushing on.
As someone with a campy, over-the-top sense of humor, this project was a perfect way to blend my personality and creativity, while also showing my copywriting chops and ability to execute a cohesive idea.
I was inspired to do this project after reading books on an advertising such as Writing Your Way Ahead in Advertising by Thomas Kemeny. This book in particular, taught me how to take ideas to the next level and make waves in a never-ending sea of distraction. So, make waves I did.
Results
I heard back from multiple of the box recipients who showed me some love for the creativity and dedication that went into this project. After talking with five different agencies, I ultimately landed a role at one of my top choices.
After posting the video on TikTok summarizing this project, it got over 60k views in just 24hrs and resulted in a surge of engagement ranging from very… passionate opinions to heartfelt support and astonishment.
The video currently sits at over 130k views, 8k comments, and hundreds of comments.
Conclusion
If you’ve made it this far, you deserve a medal. So, here you go: 🏅
